                                                            Associate (AIIAI)


This grade is for those with an interest in accident investigation or in the work of the accident investigator. No other criteria applies; applications are considered individually.

                                                  Associate Member (AMIIAI)


This grade is designed to assist those who conduct investigations under supervision and/or those who require a basic understanding of the process in order to assist or fulfill certain roles.

Note: The Grand Father Rights scheme currently applying to his grade ends on the 1st August 2010. From that date forward there will be just one route of entry. more info > >

                                                         Full Member (MIIAI)


This grade recognises advancing members; and/or those seeking to demonstrate on-going formal development of accident investigation capability; and/or those who are called upon by their employers to conduct in-house investigations; and/or by those working in the field wishing to demonstrate higher levels of assessed and/or examined competence.

                            Principal Investigator/Certified Lead Investigator


PI or CertLI designations identify those who have demonstrated the ability to successfully conduct a full investigation unsupervised and/or take the Lead or Principal role. more info >>

  

                                                           Fellow (FIIAI)


Fellowship is awarded to those whose professionalism and abilities have been deemed by their peers to be of exceptionally high standards. Rigorously examined and practically assessed, they agree to ensure that their activities will benefit both the industrial and societal need. Bound also by a strict professional code, they must act at all times within the bounds and expectations of established public policy. more info >>

                                    Incident Management Technician (IMTech)


This grade is designed to assist and recognise those who are required to plan, practice or execute their employers' emergency and/or disaster recovery procedures (criteria under review).


 

                               Incident Management Engineer (MIIAI RIMEng)


This grade is open to Full Members registered with the Engineering Council as Chartered or Incorporated Engineers or as Engineering Technicians. In some cases, engineers without formal qualification can attain this Grade. In the first instance, a sponsor holding at least MIIAI status and EC registration should approach the IIAI on the prospective applicant's behalf.


Note
Upon entry, all persons are immediately bound by the Code of Conduct. Depending on grade, rights arise on a staggered basis in line with the relevant probationary periods or individual conditions.


 

 

Minimum Entry Criteria

 

                                                 Associate Member (AMIIAI)

From 1/8/10, applicants for this grade will be considered if they...

  • Can declare at least two years involvement in the accident investigation process; and
  • Possess recognised qualification and/or appropriate experience in their particular field; and
  • Are in possession of the IIAI Foundation Certificate in Industrial Accident Investigation and Analysis or an IIAI Approved Equivalent.

 

Note 1. Until 1/8/10, suitable applicants may be admitted to this grade who are not in possession of an Approved Foundation Certificate.

Note: 2. Depending on their roles, Associate Members should up-grade within two years.

 

 

                                                       Full Member (MIIAI)


Applicants seeking this grade will be considered if they...

  • Can declare at least three years active involvement in the investigative process; and
  • Possess appropriate qualification and/or experience in the field to which their investigations relate; and
  • Are in possession of the IIAI Lead Accident Investigators' Certificate.

 

 

                             Principal Investigator/Certified Lead Investigator


A Full Member applying for MIIAI PI or MIIAI CertLI status must...

  • Have been a Full Member of the Institute for at least three years; and
  • Be in possession of the IIAI Diploma in Industrial Accident Investigation and Analysis; and
  • Be current, appropriately qualified and/or experienced in the subjects and sectors around which they will work; and
  • Obtain relevant support or restrict their investigations to comply with the above point;
  • Be attending to any areas or additional IIAI qualifications recommended by mentors or reviews.

  

                                                             Fellow (FIIAI)


A potential Fellow should...

  • Have been a full, current member of the Institute for at least five years;
  • Hold, or be eligible to hold, MIIAI PI or MIIAI CertLI status (see above);
  • Have been deemed suitable as such by their peers;
  • Possess independent references/letters of support;
  • Support and promote the Institute above and beyond normal membership expectations;
  • Be able to present and discuss any topic covered in the Approved Courses Schedule at an appropriate level to a specified range of audiences.
  • Have been interviewed by the Executive Committee and/or parties identified by them.

 

                                               Honorary Fellow (Hon) FIIAI


Honorary Fellows are elected in recognition of their work and effort in their respective fields.
