Prosafe Senior Vice President for HSEQ Addresses Course Completion Ceremony

In the week commemorating the 20th anniversary of the Piper Alpha disaster, Prosafe Production (owners and operators of Floating Production, Storage and Offloading vessels) flew a number of its offshore oil operations personnel into Singapore for an IIAI Lead Accident Investigator session.

Post editorial note: Prosafe Production was acquired by BW Offshore in 2010.

Having visited the UK in 2007 to assess an RDC Lead Accident Investigator Certificate Course, Ken Shepherd (Senior Vice President for HSEQ) decided that it would provide an extremely useful set of tools and skills for Prosafe personnel. Subsequently, he arranged for his HSE Team to work closely with Neucom Ltd (an IIAI International Centre of Excellence) in order to produce the case study and amendments needed to satisfy IIAI Type Approval.

Paul Difford (Neucom's Principal Investigator and Senior Instructor) told us that the Prosafe case study was one of the most complex that he had ever been involved in. Not surprisingly, however, the Prosafe delegates (2 HSE Managers; 1 from special projects), an HSE Advisor from HSE Operations (Captain Shakeel Ahmed), 4 OIMs (Offshore Installation Managers), a Maintenance Supervisor, Production Supervisor, Marine & Safety Superintendent, Production Superintendent, Maintenance Superintendent and a Technical Superintendent) took the complexity of the investigation in their stride and produced maximum marks in all practical and interviewing sessions. In addition, all were highly successful in their individual examinations.

Following on from the first highly successful session, Prosafe ran two further courses in 2008...

...and 2009. Amongst the 09 delegates below were the OIMs from FDPSO Azurite (the world's first Floating, Drilling, Production, Storage and Offloading vessel).

The Institute would like to thank the following from Operations Group whose background work made the courses such successful and enjoyable realities; Lim Han Ling; Nita Nurulhuda; Rob Azzopardi; Jim Grant; Captain Shakeel Ahmed.
